Media Club

McDowell High School has a plethora of classes, clubs, and other extracurricular activities that you can join to further your knowledge of media creation. From digital media, photography, podcasting, and video production, and more! The purpose of this club is to allow students to explore the media field and find out if they want to continue to educate themselves or make it a career path. The club is divided into specialties based on interest. Students can participate in Trojan News Network YouTube channel, The Trojan Voice print magazine, Photography Club, or the McDowell Media website. Contact Mrs. Weiss for more information.

The media club recruits students from media courses offered at McDowell, or students can join independently. Courses that are offered to students include   Digital Content Creation, Sports/News Broadcast Journalism, Introduction to Journalism, Video Production, McDowell Media Newsroom, and Film Appreciation.

At the Trojan News Network students produce a daily Morning Announcement show that is streamed live to YouTube each morning. Another focus of the club is a monthly "Trojans Today" show that features things happening at McDowell, in Erie, or general topics interesting to teenagers. This show allows students to express themselves with feature packages about anything that interests them. Each video is produced by McDowell Media club students. The production process includes team planning periods during tutorial, scriptwriting, video editing, and working with live production equipment including a live camera TriCaster switcher. The show is broadcast live to YouTube.

McDowell Media also participates in a few competitions that take place locally and around the state. Students regularly bring home awards from the PA School Press Association (PSPA), PTSA Reflections Contest, and Robert Morris University's Digital Media Arts Consortium (DMAC). Joining McDowell Media allows you to collaborate with your peers to create ideas and work together to enter these competitions.
