NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

Attention 11th and 12th graders. The military is entitled to request your name, address, and telephone number. If you do not wish your information to be released to the military, please stop by the main office in either building and pick up an opt out form. Forms are due back to the offices by October 1.

Day 4 of Deaf Awareness Week: Deaf Awareness Month is a time when groups and organizations can schedule opportunities for people to learn about sign language. While ASL is the form most commonly used in the United States, hundreds of forms of sign language are used around the world. Sign languages generally develop naturally among Deaf communities in various areas. While these languages are often regionalized to specific communities, they are not based on the spoken languages from that area, and multiple sign languages can exist for the same spoken language. For instance, different forms of sign language are used in the United States and Great Britain, even though English is the primary language spoken in both. Join us today in room 6-200 at McDowell North for our weekly ASL Club meeting!

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Boys soccer is heading to Girard tonight for away games. Varsity starts at 4:00 and JV at 6:00. Girls JV soccer play Ft. LeBoeuf at home in a 4:30 game. and girls volleyball heads to General McLane for away games. JV starts at 6:00 and varsity at 7:15.

Hello everyone! Interested in joining ESL Club? ESL Club is for everyone who wants to have a safe space to practice their English Language skills and talk with students who are learning English. This will be a safe, fun, and creative space for everyone, both ESL students and already English-speaking students. We can all help each other out. This club will happen twice a week - on Mondays (in Ms. Maguire's room at 2-210) and Thursdays (in Ms. Kopay's room at 4-102) during Tutorial. Note for teachers - I will create laminated passes for the students to use each week. This first meeting, starting Monday, September 21, in Room 2-210, please allow the students to come down. Come and join ESL Club!

Want to get better at public speaking, meet new people, and maybe travel around the country? If so, join Speech and Debate where you have the opportunity to compete at tournaments at places like Harvard and Yale. No experience is required to join, so if you want to elevate your college application, build confidence, and have fun, come to the first meeting on Tuesdays or Thursdays in room 2-208 from 2:40 to 4:00. Email caugherty@mtsd.org with any questions. 

Are you interested in Psychology? Then you definitely want to check out the Psychological Science Association. Come to our first meeting on Thursday, September 24, during tutorial at McDowell South. Mrs. Gibson's room, 111, right across from the Hub. We have plenty of fun activities, snacks, and community service opportunities! Psych is fun! Learn more! 

Are you feeling lucky? Join the McDowell North Student Council this Friday for our first Free Lunch Friday activity! During your lunch visit our table in the science commons and pick a duck. If your duck is a winner you will be entered into a drawing to have $10.00 added to your lunch account. It is free to play so you might as well come give it a try! On Thursday September 24th there will be a Lead and Seed Club meeting. It will be at MIHS Humanities Commons during the tutorial. We welcome new members.

HOMECOMING TICKET SALES ARE OPEN! Tickets are on sale September 23rd, through your Infinite Campus account under the School Store! Each McDowell student may purchase: 1 ticket for themselves and 1 guest ticket for a student who does NOT attend McDowell. You cannot purchase a guest ticket for another McDowell student. All guests must have a completed guest form to be permitted into the dance. Forms are available on the MTSD website or in the main offices at each building. Ticket sales end and guest forms are due by October 7th! Let's have a fantastic Once Upon a Homecoming night!
