McDowell Manufacturing Lab
About
McDowell Manufacturing is a program developed between a collaborative partnership between the Millcreek Township School District and the Northwest Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC). The program enables qualifying students at McDowell High School the opportunity to participate in a manufacturing enterprise that is making actual parts, delivering services and adding value as part of the supply chain for local manufacturers.
The students will learn about and perform different job functions and manufacturing, develop essential and life-long skills, utilize advanced manufacturing technologies and build relationships with local companies. At the same time this work readiness is occurring, capacity for local manufacturers is advancing, a short-term solution to job placement is underway, future talent pipeline issues are being addressed, and the next generation of manufacturing business leaders is being cultivated.
State Recognition - McDowell Manufacturing receives the Training to Career Grant from the PA Department of Community and Economic Development. “This is one of a kind in the state,” Robert Zaruta, president and chief executive of the Northwest Industrial Resource Center, said of the student-run enterprise. The grant was made possible from the support of Senator Daniel Laughlin, Representative Ryan Bizzarro and Representative Robert Merski.
